Stores closed on Thanksgiving 2023: Walmart, Target, Kohlâs, Best Buy, JC Penney, more
Pre-pandemic, opening on Thanksgiving Day was a growing trend. 2020 put an end to that and now, most major retailers are opting to keep their doors closed on the holiday.
The decision seems to be popular among shoppers who seem to prefer spending the day with friends and family as opposed to navigating store sales in person. A 2021 survey showed 57% of consumers either somewhat agreed or strongly agreed that retail locations should be closed on Thanksgiving. Only 10% said they felt stores should be open on Thanksgiving.
